Unit of ultrasonic kidney stones lithotripsy
This unit is managed by a group of consultants in the Department of Urology.
The technology of lithotripsy is characterized by using shock waves which are featured by high speed and increase of pressure on stones, which in turn leads to make small incisions on the edge of the stone. With the successive shocks, the stones break apart and splinter into small fragments that pass through the kidney and the urinary tract during urination.
It is known that the method of lithotripsy which began to be used clinically in the world in 1982 has made many patients dispense with the surgical intervention.
